Completing a long-running website project: UFO Timeline
In late December 2021 I started building this project without much of a plan – I just had a domain which I had got hold of. As recently as last week, I finalized the design and functionality of the site. Little did I know back then how the design and site would evolve to something I’m proud of. It is called UFOTimeline.com, and is the project which I’ve spent most hours on in total ever – making sure that the design and content is always up to date.
It has gone through several rounds of feedback on Reddit and X, which has made it what it is today. I’ve listened to many thoughts, especially from several posts on Reddit. It has been shared on the web design and web dev subreddits and it has been shared on pretty much all UFO-related subreddits as well. People have been so positive and it has made me happy to work with it.
The website has received positive words from people like Stanford University Professor Garry P. Nolan, Navy Fighter Pilot Ryan Graves and Film Director Jeremy Corbell – all which I’m very proud of. Corbell called it “an excellent educational concept”.
Make sure to check out the website live as well.
This is how the project started out in late 2021:
And this is how the completed design looks today. Each filter/category has its own color to make it easy to find what you are looking for. If you click on a year, you get yearly archives. If you press on a month, you get monthly archives – and so on. It also features a light/dark mode toggle, a sticky sidebar “fast-menu” for easy access to all filters.
The mobile version has also received a lot of love to make it easy to browse the site from a phone – which I’ve seen is the main source of traffic to the site. No features have been left out from the desktop version. Same color-coded filters, for one-click access.
You can also view the project and images of the website on Dribbble. Or, if you have any feedback, feel free to drop a comment below. I love feedback and always listen to all thoughts shared.
